When you become a parent, you get all kinds of unsolicited “warnings”. Say goodbye to sleep! Your kid will only eat chicken nuggets from now on! Potty training is harder than you think! But no one warns you that your living space will no longer be your own. From the moment we brought my daughter home from the hospital four years ago, she has been the head of our roost. It didn’t matter how much I resisted, toys infiltrated and slowly overtook my house like an alien virus that could not be stopped. I swear, 90% of my couch space is ‘reserved’ seating for her stuffed animals. My hallway is a labyrinth of the toys du jour that I don’t even bother to tidy up anymore. And that gorgeous light-filled breakfast nook in our kitchen never even had the chance to feature a table it was automatically designated the munchkin’s craft area. But not for long!
